The Short Answer
Enter the vehicle’s VIN (or year, make, model, and trim if the VIN is not available) along with the asking price. The Fair Price Index™ compares the asking price with VINTrakID’s current Market Estimate and shows you where that price sits relative to the current market.

When you know how the asking price compares with the market, you can approach the conversation with the seller with more confidence. You are not guessing. You have context.
How It Works
- Enter the VIN for the most specific result. If you do not have the VIN, enter the year, make, model, and trim if available.
- Enter the asking price from the listing.
- Review the Market Estimate — VINTrakID’s current estimate for this vehicle based on available market information.
- Review the Lower Market and Upper Market — a range that helps you see where the asking price sits.
- Check the Pricing Signals — the information that helps explain how the vehicle compares with the current market.
What the Results Mean
- Asking price near the Market Estimate: The price appears to be in line with the current market.
- Asking price above the Upper Market: The price may be high relative to similar vehicles. Ask why.
- Asking price below the Lower Market: The price may be low. Investigate the vehicle’s condition and history carefully.
Common Mistakes
- Treating the estimate as a guaranteed price. The Market Estimate is decision support, not a guaranteed transaction price.
- Ignoring vehicle condition. Two vehicles with the same VIN pattern can be in very different condition.
- Forgetting the out-the-door price. The Fair Price Index™ evaluates the vehicle price. Taxes, fees, and financing are separate.
